The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a forward-thinking and innovative leader who will provide effective leadership and management to our Parks and Gardens Department.

As the Manager Parks and Gardens, you will provide direction, oversight and leadership across the following areas in order to deliver on Council’s guiding strategy and achieve the vision for a fair, thriving, connected, green and beautiful city:

  • Parks and Sports Field Maintenance
  • Arboriculture
  • Horticulture
  • Conservation

Reporting directly to the General Manager City Development, your key focus will be to set and lead the operational strategy for the Department and the successful delivery of programs and/or services with the best interests of the organisation and community as the key driver. You will also work collaboratively with Council’s Senior Leadership Team to lead and build a culture which reflects our organisation’s values and supporting behaviours.

 

About You

We are seeking to recruit a passionate and experienced leader. To succeed in this position, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant field or extensive management experience;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in horticulture, arboriculture or landscape architecture.
  • Proven experience in effectively leading and developing teams;
  • Experience in planning, leading and delivering high-quality services, projects and programs in alignment with an organisational strategy;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and deliver presentations and reports;
  • Proven experience in foreseeing and managing sensitive community impacted situations;
  • Effective judgement and decision-making skills for complex and politically sensitive matters combined with the willingness to focus on issues and achieve positive resolutions in a collaborative manner;
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, influence and motivate others;
  • Combination of technical expertise, political, social, legal, economic and financial acumen; and
  • Demonstrated and proven commitment to continuous improvement to lead team in achievement of key deliverables.
