The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for the efficient and effective management, planning and coordination of our organisations financial accounting functions to ensure professional standards, advice and operational service deliverables are achieved.  



  • Ensure the annual financial statements are prepared in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AAS), other authoritative pronouncements of the Australian Accounting Standards Board, the Local Government Act 2020 and the Local Government (Planning and Reporting) Regulations 2014;
  • Manage and coordinate the external year end and interim audits conducted by the Victorian Auditor General’s Office as well as assist as required with internal audit engagements;
  • Coordinate the preparation of the annual return to the Victorian Grants Commission and acquittal returns to various funding agencies;
  • Oversee that Accounts Payable function including review and approval of the fortnightly payment run;
  • Coordinate the administration of tax compliance activities including; the submission of the annual Fringe Benefits Tax return and the monthly Business Activity Statement to the ATO within prescribed timelines;
  • Perform and review month-end general ledger reconciliations including the subsidiary pathway debtor’s system; and,
  • Manage Councils Investment portfolio by liaising with external financial institutions for the application and redemption of funds as well as fortnightly cash flow analysis and reporting.


Skills & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. accounting, business, commerce or economics) and CPA/CA qualified.
  • Extensive relevant experience in financial accounting in the public, private or not for profit sectors in a comparable role.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of financial planning, reporting, and control processes and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including collaboration and business partnering skills, and an ability to influence, coach, and train staff from across the organisation.
  • Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage self and others to meet targets and deadlines.

Selection Criteria Essential: Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. accounting, business, commerce or economics) and CPA/CA qualified.

Essential: Demonstrated success in the preparation of annual financial statements, fringe benefits tax return, funds management, management reporting and audit requirements.
